Aftercare Services

Aftercare is an essential service with both parents working in so many families.  Our boys enjoy a structured afternoon under the supervision of Sheila Hardiman and Barbara Bickell.  A staff member is also on duty.

Occupational & Speech Therapy

We are very fortunate to have the services of an Occupational Therapist, Bev Smith as well as a Speech Therapist, Heather Dunn.  We believe in early intervention should we identify an area of concern in our assessments.

Superb Playground

When you visit the school, you might notice that the big slide and ever-popular tractor and maze have made way for new apparatus, but the spirit and heart of the school remain the same. We are all about fun!

Aftercare Services & Rules

Our optional Aftercare service is available to support working parents. Please note that Aftercare fees are separate from regular school fees.

You can choose between full-time or part-time Aftercare. Part-time Aftercare operates with prepaid vouchers. For full-time Aftercare, a term’s notice is required to make changes, and mid-term refunds are not available.

Aftercare runs from 12:40 PM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for pickups until 5:00 PM. Late pickups incur penalties, starting at R50 for the first 15 minutes.

Please remember to pack an extra snack for your child as no food is provided. Sweets are not allowed, and there is no holiday care. Rest assured, two Aftercare Supervisors and an Assistant Teacher are present each afternoon to ensure your child’s safety and well-being.

From Opportunity, To New Facilities Set In Stone

The diligent maintenance of the school grounds and building is credited to Rosie Mati, Glad Sinyongo, and Alfred Xakaxa, who has shown 13 years of loyal service. In 2018, the school invested in stormwater drainage and a playground redesign, creating an expansive and educational play area.

The commitment to security and safety includes air-conditioned classrooms, solar panels for uninterrupted power supply, filtered water, and vigilant staff supervision during all activities, reinforcing Linkside’s dedication to providing a secure and enriching environment for its students.

  • 4 year Higher Diploma in Pre-Primary Education at Barkly House Teachers College, Cape Town
  • 1984 -1997 – Head of Pre-Primary at Sydenham Primary
  • 1997 – present – Principal and teacher at Linkside Pre-Primary
  • I am very privileged to be doing what I love. I am passionate about Linkside Pre-Primary and take my work in the classroom very seriously.
  • My aim for the boys is that they are happy, they try their best and they are liked by the other boys.
  • My goal is to instill confidence in the boys so that they can answer or question without feeling nervous, embarrassed or afraid. We follow a no-stress policy in my class – rather a ‘let’s make a plan’ policy.  Every boy is important to me and I look for the shy boy to give him the courage to speak up.
  • I also want to instill in the boys a love for learning and finding out things.
  • Our everyday goal is to always have FUN while we are learning!
